On Lane Analysis - Experienced Bowler
If you are a new customer and a league or experienced bowler, we PERFER NOT to drill a ball for you UNTILL we analyze your ball track, find your true PAP and axis of rotation. We do this by marking you pap and have you throw your current bowling ball on the lanes until we can determine what your axis shift and roll is.
Only after this is done can ANYONE determine what ball and layout you is best for your individual needs and be able to match the lane condition you will bowling on.
Don't Accept Guesswork. Your ball track, axis migration and PAP can ONLY be determined by on-lane analysis.
Ball Track, Pap and Axis Shift
What most bowlers do not understand is that not everyone has the same ball track, PAP, or axis shift.
For example, the manufactures drill sheet included with every ball sold is a generic drill sheet. It assumes that the person buying this ball has a standard 3/4 roll with a 45 degree axis shift and a PAP of 5 inches out and 1 inch up. (Update - Lately, several manufactures stop issuing drill sheets for this reason, leaving layouts strictly in the hands of the ball driller.)
About Your PAP
Only about 55% of all bowlers has an average PAP location and axis rotation. That mean almost 1/2 of all axis shifts and PAPs are different, hence the drill patterns will not perform as described and the ball reaction will differ from what was predicted in the layout sheet. T
he more the PAP location and/or axis shift differ from the average, the more the differences will be.
With more and more no thumbers bowling, it is ESPECIALLY necessary to mark those bowlers track and axis. They tend to have some very UNIQUE tracks and axis locations.
One constant seems to be that the track angle is different from a bowler who used their thumb about 50% of the time, so if IMPERATIVE that a thumbless bowler's track and Axis is located.
Bad Layouts = Bad Results
If you have a ball drilled without the person drilling your ball knowing your PAP location, the amount of rotation your axis travels and your track, that means the ball driller is guessing and the odds that the ball will be drilled without having the optimal layout.
I cannot tell everyone how many times I have seen first time customers bring in equipment that was drilled exactly the opposite of what their layout specifications called for. The bottom line is that just because someone has a drill press does no mean they know how to layout a ball.
Best Head For The Door
If you walk into a pro shop and they do not, or have not, done a lane analysis to determine the above criteria, I suggest you RUN out because that person is either more interested in taking your money and/or just doesn't understand the theory of layouts.
Either way, you are spending good money on somebody's guesswork. Why take that chance?
